Recall on Blinds

You read that right: today, the Consumer Product Safety Commission and the Window Shade Safety Council (an industry trade association) announced a voluntary recall of all roman shades and roll-up blinds that are controlled with a cord. That's all of those kinds of shades ever made -- ever. Does anybody not have at least one of these in their house, or a house they visit frequently?
The recall was issued due to reports received by the CPSC of five deaths and 16 near strangulations, since 2006, in Roman shades and three deaths, since 2001, in roll-up blinds. The cords are the hazard; kids can get tangled up in them and then be unable to free themselves. And while millions of kids have grown up safely in homes with these kinds of shades (WCSC reports that roughly five million Roman shades and three million roll-up blinds are sold each year), it's such a scary thing to contemplate the dangers it seems like a lot of us are going to be going for curtains next time we buy window coverings.

Still, you can make your home safer right away: Get a free repair kit for your roman or roll-up shades at the WCSC’s website www.windowcoverings.org or call (800) 506-4636.
And the WCSC gives the following advice:
Examine all shades and blinds in the home. Make sure there are no accessible cords on the front, side, or back of the product. CPSC and the WCSC recommend the use of cordless window coverings in all homes where children live or visit. Do not place cribs, beds, and furniture close to the windows because children can climb on them and gain access to the cords. Make loose cords inaccessible.If the window shade has looped bead chains or nylon cords, install tension devices to keep the cord taut.

My "baby" turned 4 years old today!! 3 didn't seem so old but 4 sure sounds old!! Where did the years go?? Crazy to think just 4 short years ago we were a childless family of 2! Now we are a family of 4 and soon to be family of 5!
Blake is such a character! The things he says just crack me up! That's one of his newer sayings, "you crack me up" along with "whatever" "Oh, crapped" and " DREWY!!".
Yes he loves his brother but Drew really knows how to puch Blake's buttons! One of Drew's favorite things to do is try to join in on the train action! Blake LOVES his trains. I swear we own just about every Thomas the Train friend and every Geotrax set. His newest set is the Polar Express train set. He has it set up in the dining room and this thing is huge!! He could sit and play all day with his trains. And if you ever have a question about trains he's your man!
His favorite movie is... you guessed it... a train movie! The Polar Express! He's watched this movie probably 200+ times. He even has it memorized!!! We took him to ride the Polar Express this year and he loved it!!!
Blake also started preschool this year! I hate to brag but he takes after his mom and had a wonderful report card!! He loves going to school and riding the bus home!!

Hard to believe Drew is almost 2!! A week from today is his 2nd birthday. Here's some pics of my little monkey boy!

Wow! It's been a looong time since I posted a blog!! Alot has been happening between now and then!
First off we've gotten all unpacked and settled into the new house. We are loving it here. It is definantly "home". We had a great Housewarming party for all our family and friends.
Blake started school this year. He goes to the preschool at the McMullen school. He loves school and is always bringing home pictures for the fridge!!
Drew is loving the quality time with Mommy while Blake is at school. He likes to jump up on the couch and cuddle. He's always been a little cuddlebug!!
And our newest news is that our family is growing!! The new baby will arrive May 2 or a little earlier!! Hopefully we can find out the sex of the baby in December!

Carts has received reports that some infants with sensitive skin could be allergic to heat-transferred, or “tag-less,” labels used in baby and infant clothing, including Carter’s clothing. Children with such an allergy may develop a localized rash in the general area of the label on the upper back. Naturally, we are very concerned about any child who may have had a skin rash while wearing our garments, and we have been looking into this matter thoroughly.

We have conducted an internal review of the product and test results, required our label manufacturers to do the same, and coordinated with several independent experts, including physicians, to provide their analyses. Our review and testing provide no indication that the labels contain any known skin irritants or abrasive chemicals, or that such a rash is anything beyond a rare allergic reaction to an otherwise safe product. We have received reports of rashes on a very small fraction of 1% of the garments that we’ve sold with these labels.

The reported skin rashes have been associated with tag-less labels used in our Fall 2007 product line. These labels have a solid, rather than stenciled, background. Prior and current Carter’s product lines utilize labels with stenciled backgrounds and have not been linked to skin rashes.
If your child develops such an allergic reaction, you should stop using the garment that caused the reaction. If the condition persists, please contact your pediatrician for advice. If you have any additional questions please contact our Consumer Affairs staff.

Is there a recall on the Fall 2007 products?No. There is no recall. Carter’s has used tag-less labels on hundreds of millions of products and our experience with these labels is that they are safe. Carter’s has coordinated directly with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) on this issue.

If there is no recall then why did Carter’s issue a release with the CPSC?We worked closely with the CPSC to issue a release to make sure that consumers are alerted to the situation in the event that their infant has an allergic reaction. Naturally, we are very concerned about any child who may have had a skin rash while wearing our garments. We are continuing to work closely with the CPSC to assess updated information we receive and how we communicate that to our customers.

House Signing Tomorrow!

So tomorrow is a big day for our family. We sign papers on our new house we are buying! We had already sold ours when we hit a snag on the other house we were buying. There was a point when I was panicing and thinking we would be homeless. God must have had a plan for us all along though. Some great friends of ours' (Josh and Mikke) decided to sell us their house and move 2 doors down. They had recently bought the house 2 doors down at an auction. There house was perfect for us!! We loved it and I just felt sooo much better with the whole situation. With the other house I had some worries (aka: the small kitchen!) but with this house I have no worries!! We have all the bedrooms we need, beautiful kitchen, laundry room, and a nice big backyard! She even decorates like I do so we don't even have to repaint anything! Everything we were looking for! We are soooo soooo thankful that they were willing to do this for us, especially with just adding a new addition to their family.
We sign papers tomorrow at noon and then the house will be ours'!!! So exciting!

A great and caring co-worker of Dan's when he worked at Con Agra passed away after a curagious battle with cancer. She will missed....

Jill M. Weimer, 50, of Loudonville, died early Monday morning, July 6, in Hospice of North Central Ohio, after a very courageous nine month battle with cancer. Jill was born December 27, 1958 in Wilkes Barre, PA, the daughter of Charles and Florence (Lipfert) Fudge. Jill was a 1976 graduate of Loudonville High School, she attended Ohio State University, and graduated from ATI, Wooster. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and the American Legion Auxiliary. Jill was an employee of Con Agra, Loudonville for over 27 years. On June 3, 1994 she married Barry Weimer and he died December 16, 2006. She was a beloved wife, daughter, sister and aunt and she will be deeply missed. She is survived by her mother, Florence Fudge of Loudonville; her sister, Jane (Tim) Hall of Loudonville; her brother, Charles (Sandy) Fudge of King George, VA; her brother-in-law, Curt (Barb) Weimer of Kansas City, MO; her sister-in-law, Melody (Jim) Mayer of Mansfield;her nieces and nephews, Carey Fudge, Brett (Craig) Searles, Davis (Jessica) Hall, Chas Fudge, Adam Hall, Michael Hall, Alex Hall, Katie Weimer and Eric Weimer; her very good friend, Barb Bowers and many beloved pets. She was preceded in death by her husband and her father Charles Fudge. Services will be held Thursday, July 9 at 11:00am in Byerly-Lindsey Funeral Home, Loudonville with Pastor Skip Snell of Hospice of North Central Ohio officiating. Burial will be in Loudonville Cemetery. Friends may call Wednesday from 6-8pm in the funeral home. Memorial contributions should be made to Hospice of North Central Ohio, 1050 Dauch Drive, Ashland, Ohio 44805, or Jill Weimer Animal Rescue Benefit Fund, c/o Farmers Bank, 120 N. House buying woes......

As some of you may know we've been having problems with the house we are wanting to buy. It appraised for $5,000 less than what we are buying it for.
1) We aren't buying a house for more than it's worth. That's just stupid.
2) The bank won't loan you anymore than what it appraises for which would mean we would have to dip into our savings. Again stupid. I like having a cushion.

So the owner of the house took a gamble and paid for another appraisel. Well the 2nd appraisel came back even lower!!! Ha Ha!! About $8,500 less than what we were buying it for. The owner doesn't want to come down any lower. He offered to have us pay the 1st appraisel amount plus his closing costs.

We have looked at 2 other houses in town.

House #1 Needs alot of work. Love the neighborhood and neighbors. Has a nice yard, back porch, and pool. Love how the rooms are set up.

House #2 Friends of ours own it and are thinking of moving out of state. LOVE IT!!! 7 acres, brand spanking new house, 2 ponds, in the country but not to far out of town. They just have to see how much they could sell it for and then they said they would drop the price for a quick sale. I HOPE HOPE HOPE it's in our price range. I would love to have their house!

Regardless of what we do we are going to be homeless in mid July because we have sold our house. :( We will find somewhere to live! Dan's parents have offered for us to become roomies.

So I've been emailing companies telling them how wonderful (or awful) their products are. To thank me they are sending me coupons, awesome coupons!!
I started with SC Johnson. They will send you coupons for free products just for complimenting them!! Just click on the "contact us" button and then it will list all their products. I just complimented each product. And if you hit the back button you won't have to enter your info again!! Just change the comments and product name!!

I also got my 2 $10 movie cash certificates in the mail from welch's. I had to buy 6 juices (which I got free with coupons) and they sent me a certificate!!

I also got some coupons from farmland. Gribbles will often have the sausage for $1.

Mother's Day at the Zoo

We spent Mothers Day at the Zoo. I love treating the boys to new experiences. Mother's got in free that day so the bargain hunter in me was very happy! We LOVE the Cleveland zoo so much better than the Columbus zoo. It just seems like there were soooo many more animals and that we were always keeping our eyes open for them. Mother's Day at the Zoo

We are thinking of heading up to the Cleveland zoo for Mother's Day. Moms get in free (same at columbus) on Mother's Day. It's been a loooooong time since I've been to the Cleveland zoo. Does anyone have an recommendations/comments? We went to the Columbus zoo last year and I wasn't too impressed. Alot of walking space between the animals and half of the animals weren't even there. What zoo doesn't have giraffes??

We also have a COSI membership so I was thinking we could swing by the science center too and of course eat out!!
