Getting Started With Couponing!!

I've had a few people asking me how I do it so here are some pointers to get you going!!

1) You can combine store coupons with manufacturer coupons. Example: Combine a $1 of soap Target coupon + a $1 of soap manufactuer coupon to save $2 off 1 bar of soap.

2) Pair up your coupons with the sales. This is really the only time I use my coupons on an item. I am so stocked up on items that now I only buy stuff to replenish my stockpile.

3) Many stores that offer the little keychain loyatly cards also offer e-coupons that you can load onto your card. These coupons can also be paired with a manufacturer coupon to double up on your savings!!

4) Speaking of doubling up... There are a few stores in our area that double coupons. This means that the store will take the price on your coupon and double it to save you even more!!
Meijer- doubles up to $.50
Kroger- doubles up to $.50 except in Mt. Vernon. They double up to $.99
IGA- doubles up to $.50
Geyer's- doubles up to $.50

Occasionally K-Mart will do "super doubles" where they will double coupons up to $2.00!!!

5) Pay attention to the wording on your coupon. If it doesn't say "excludes trial sizes" than use it to score free trial size items!! Example: Save $1 on Pantene. Pantene trial sizes are $.97 so FREE!!

6) While paying attention to the wording notice if it says a certain size or kind of item. Example: Save $1 on any betty crocker item.... This coupon could be used on any betty crocker item of any size. Most times you can get the smaller sizes for free!!

7) Have common courtesy when using coupons: Don't take everything off a shelf for a good deal. Save some for others!!

8) Internet coupons: Not every store will take internet coupons, most do,but some don't. When printing a coupon hit your browser's back button (the little arrow) once the coupon shows that it's printing and you will get 2 coupons to print instead of 1!! Most sites use a type of coupon printer called "bricks". This systems allows you to only print 1 per computer you use unless you do the back button trick!!

9)Email or call companies to complain or praise their items. They will send you GREAT coupons, often for FREE items!!

10) Drug stores often give rewards or bucks on your reciept. They also offer $/$$ coupons. Use this first and then manufacturer coupons and then sometimes you will recieve their reward bucks on your reciept.

11) Off to the side of my blog you will see some of my favorite couponing sites. Here is a listing of them:

Buy the Mount Vernon paper on Saturday. The coupons are usually the same as the Columbus paper but it only costs $.50
I usually buy the Ashland paper on Saturday too. It usually has decent coupons. Don't bother buying the Mansfield paper--it sucks!

On Sunday I will buy either the Columbus or Cleveland paper if the coupons are good.
To find out what's gonna be in the paper that weekend I check out http://www.taylortownpreview.com/

Oh, there isn't any coupons on Holiday weekends

I used to keep all my coupons in little 4x6 photo albums ($1 at Dollar General) so I could just flip through them but then a friend showed me the way with baseball card holders (Thanks Jenn!).
